Who are we?

Historically, the Covenant Church grew out of the Swedish Lutheran Church.  The Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada was founded in 1904 in Winnipeg, Manitoba by Swedish immigrants who had a passion for God's Word; for those who did not yet know God personally through Jesus Christ; for gathering to worship and for getting together with one another.

Theologically, the Covenant Church adheres to several important principles:

First, we are a "people of the book".  We believe the Bible is "God-breathed" and is the ultimate authority on matters of faith, doctrine and sound living. 2 Tim. 3:16

Second, we also believe that at times we may need to "agree to disagree" where the Bible is not clear on matters of doctrine.  We in the Covenant Church seek to focus on what unites us as followers of Christ, rather than on what divides us.

Third, we are an evangelical church, and so we are committed to sharing the Gospel message of the salvation of Jesus Christ with all.  We also believe that we are called to serve both our local community and our global community.
