DESCRIPTION OF CHAIR MINISTRY AT MECC

At MECC the auditorium is multi-purposed.  It is used for Sunday Worship Services with the chairs set up in rows and tables available for families. During the week the space is cleared to use as a gym or for special events.  

To accommodate these needs, we depend on people to set up chairs and take them down weekly.  There are some exceptions during the Fall, Winter and Spring months.

 

CHAIRS, TABLES, DOLLYS, TABLE RACK

For chair setup or takedown there is a need to stack or unstack chairs as well as to place them on a dolly and move them to or from the storage area. Tables will be set up, taken down and stored on a table storage rack.

 

SETUP TEAM

We aim to have six setup teams, each with four or five people. Each team would be scheduled every six or seven weeks.

When a team’s turn comes up a reminder will be sent by the administrator. It is up to the Team leader and members to communicate between themselves to plan when they can work.  If there are activities at the church during the week that will impact setting up, information will be provided so the team can plan accordingly.

The setup involves setting up nine rows of chairs on each side of the aisle following the black marks on the floor.  Tables and chairs are needed along the walls on each side and two behind the rows of chairs. Tablecloths are to be placed on each table. The cloths are currently stored under where the coffee and cookies are served on Sundays.

 

TAKEDOWN CREW

We aim to have six takedown crews, each with four or five people. Each crew would be scheduled every six or seven weeks.

When a crew’s turn comes up a reminder will be sent by the administrator.  The chairs need to come down after the morning service, preferably after Sunday School. This can be arranged by the members. Chairs are to be stacked eight chairs high, put on a dolly and moved to the storage area or along the sides of the gym. Tables are to be taken down and put on the table storage rack. The tablecloths are to be removed, folded carefully and placed in the storage place provided.  The cloths are currently stored under where the coffee and cookies are served on Sundays.

 

SCHEDULES

All volunteers will be assigned to a Team (Setup) or Crew (Takedown) and given contact information so they can communicate with fellow members. A schedule will be sent out to all who are on the chair ministry serving list.  Each week reminders will be sent to the scheduled team and crew members along with any details to take into consideration. We expect to use the Planning Centre program for these reminders. If someone on the team/crew is unavailable on a given week, they should let the Team/Crew leader know ahead of time so they can plan accordingly.

 

CONSIDER HOW YOU CAN HELP AND SIGN UP

This is an important ministry and having enough helpers will ensure that it does not become too time consuming. It is an opportunity to serve the Lord in a practical way for the comfort and enjoyment of all who attend the various activities at MECC.
